Rose Awards Guidelines (revised March 2004)
1.0 Purpose
The Alberta Rose Award is to officially recognize excellence, dedication
and outstanding achievement by dancers, callers and leaders in the Province
of Alberta.
2.0 Categories
There is only one category for this Award.
3.0 Eligibility
Nominations may be individuals or couples and must have been active in
the Square dance movement for at least 10 years. Currently active or retired
dancers, callers or leaders are eligible if they have made an outstanding
contribution within the scope of Square dancing beyond the club level. Nominations
for posthumous awards will also be considered.
4.0 Nominations
Any individual, Club or association may nominate a candidate and forward
the application to the next highest organizational level for their support
and endorsement. Nominations sent to the Federation Secretary must be reviewed
and endorsed by the Association except in those areas where there is no
organized Association. The deadline for receipt by Federation is JANUARY
15. Copies of all applications should be made and sent to all directors
of Alberta Square and Round Dance Federation one month prior to the March
meeting for directors perusal.
5.0 Selection
The annual selection of the Alberta Rose Award recipients will be made
by the Federation Board of Directors at their MARCH meeting. This part of
the meeting shall be held in camera with the Association Directors speaking
for or against the nominees with an opportunity for other Directors to question
the merits of the application. A motion to approve each application on an
individual basis will be done by the Federation Board of Directors. Applications
not accepted for awards shall be destroyed forthwith.
To maintain the prestige
of the Awards, all information relating to the discussion shall remain confidential
and shall not be made public by any member of the Board of Directors or
by Association executives.
6.0 Award
The tangible award itself shall be provided by the Federation and includes:
1. A certificate with appropriate art work and inscribed as follows:
"Alberta Square and Round Dance Federation
Proudly presents this
Alberta Rose Award
To (Couple or individual's
name)"
"The Alberta Rose Award is to officially recognize excellence, dedication
and outstanding achievement by dancers, callers and leaders in the Province
of Alberta" and be signed by the President Couple of the Federation, and
the date signed.
2. A Gentlemen's and Ladies pin bearing the following inscription "Alberta
Square & Round Dance Federation" "Alberta Rose Award" The Alberta Rose
will also be engraved on the pin.
7.0 Presentation
The Federation shall send or present the physical awards to the respective
Association's Board of Directors delegate. The presentation of the award
will be at a time and place determined by the Association. If no delegates
are available then the Federation will appoint a couple to present the award.
8.0 Records
An Award file is the responsibility of the Federation Secretary who shall
record the recipients name(s), date, resume, along with the name of the
sponsoring Association and Club. This file shall be updated annually and
passed onto succeeding Federation secretaries.
9.0 Funding
The entire cost of the awards shall be borne by the Alberta Square and
Round Dance Federation
Application Form:
A simple letter form to include the following:
Pertinent demographic data
The nominator
A brief resume of the applicant's activities
Comments and signature of the Association President
or designee.
The date received by the Federation Secretary will be noted and copies
of the applications or a summary of the applications will be made available
to the Board of Directors for their review prior to the March meeting.
